Gigila
Approximate Position: Lat/Long: 11°10'S / 152°56'E
AnchorageGigila provides a secure anchorage to the east of Kuwanak/Robinsons Anchorage. The bay appears to be free of hazardous bomboras, however we observed several deeper obstructions on the sounder (>8m deep) to be mindful of when anchoring. Exploring the islandHazardous WildlifeSwimming here is not recommended, as locals at nearby Robinson' anchorage have reported crocodiles eating their pigs. WalksGigila offers a nice walk all the way round the island that takes you through mangrove forests, villages, over stone platforms and sandy beaches. If you feel more adventurous you can try to climb the grassy hills. Beautiful views make up for the steep climb, but there are no paths to take you there. Ascending and descending through the hillside gardens is the easiest way to get there and back - just don't forget to ask the gardeners for approval.
TradeGigila was one of the few places where the locals offered mudcrabs. If you are anchored close to the mangroves it might be possible to catch some yourself. Places nearby
